The Problem
Manufacturing costs for heat treating, transportation, and delays in processing time were all factors in qualifying the return on investment of a new furnace.
The Solution
HeatTek designed and built a Custom Stress Relief Furnace for a worldwide supplier of electric motors allowing this particular facility to perform heat-treating in-house after outsourcing for over 20 years.
Features of the furnace included the powered product load car designed to keep the wheels and drive unit out of the heat, varying temperature range for different types of weldments and processes and a custom designed chamber size designed to fit through the existing building doorways. The clear working area for product measures 18’ long x 7’-6” wide x 7’ high and is designed to process 15,000 pounds of steel per cycle.
The Results
The addition of the furnace reduces the turn-around time of the completed motor and the cost of sending the components out for heat-treating.
Processing times can now be completed in one shift compared to 1 - 2 weeks.
